Program 5 days 4 nights combines a visit to Allpahuayo Mishana with visits to the Amazon River Islands, specifically in the area Yanamono 80 km dela City of Iquitos where 150 bird species were recorded in places like Hondococha (Island off Heliconia Lodge), Caño Cáceres, Quebrada Manco and around Heliconia Lodge.

BIRD 02: 5 Days 4 Nights (2 Nights in Heliconia Amazon River Lodge, 2 nights in Iquitos with Fullday in Allpahuayo Mishana)

 

Day 01: Lima-Iquitos

Reception at Jose Secada Vigneta of Iquitos International Airport and transfer to Hotel Victoria Regia. Lunch; afternoon begin a walk through the boulevard area where we can see some birds like watching from the pier the Itaya River. Return to hotel and dinner. Overnight at the Hotel in Iquitos.

 

Day 02: Reserve National Allpahuayo Mishana / Laguna Quistococha (BOX.AC)

Wake up 4:15 a.m. and snack delivery to each member of the expedition.
At 4: 45 heading towards Allpahuayo Book - Mishana to Km 25 of the Iquitos-Nauta Road..

5: 30 am start of our tour accompanied by a bird expert Allpahuayo Mishana and knowledge of the field who will explain the differences of Forests growing on white sand known locally as "varillales".

At a distance of just 100 mts. the road can be heard approximately 15 to 20 species, including some nocturnal birds and different varieties of amphibians and hopefully some species of monkeys.

Continuing the tour we turn off the trails or narrow roads to reach different areas of the forest of white sand where you can watch birds like the Ancient Antwren, Gray-legged Tinamou (this bird is only possible try to observe between the months of December to March), Mishana Tyrannulet, Zimmer's Antbird, Pompadour Cotinga, Allpahuayo Antbird, Bronw-banded Puffbird, Citron-belied Attila, Safron-crested Tyran-Manakin, Yellow-throated Flycatcher and with luck the recently described Iquitos Gnatctacher (Polioptila clementsi ). Back Quistococha visit the lagoon to observe different species of birds in lowland rainforest. The tour takes place around the Lagoon and takes approximately two hours where you can watch the Amazonian Parrotlet, formerly known only in southeast Peru, extending its range to the northeast of the country. Observe around the Lesser Swallow -tailed Swift, Point -tailed Palmcreeper, Sulphury Flycatcher, olivaceus Woodcreeper, Lettered Aracari, Chestnut-eared Aracari, White-lored Euphonia, Red-eyed Vireo, Spotted Tody-Flycatcher. In the leaves of palm trees birds such as Short-tailed Swifts breeding or roosting. Back in the city of Iquitos, we can observe in flight over -tailed Zone Hawk and Pearl Kites. Dinner and overnight in the city of Iquitos.

 

Day 03: Allpahuayo-Mishana / Forest Yanamono - Heliconia Lodge (BOX AC)

Wake up 4:15 a.m.. and delivery of refreshing every member of the expedition.
Departure to the Reserve Allpahuayo Mishana to visit the forest again varillal and observe other bird species in the forests of white sand as the Pearly Antshrike, White-plumed Antbird, White-browed Purpletuft again trying to find the rare Iquitos Gnatcatcher .
Return along the road to Iquitos and then continue to the port of Bellavista, (NanayI River) where we board a fast boat and begin a journey down the Amazon River to the Communal Reserve is located Yanamono Heliconia Amazon River Lodge. During this trip we will be able to observe our first Large-billed and Yellow-billed Terns and sometimes Lesser Yellow-headed Vulture. Lunch.
In the afternoon we will walk through the Yanamono near the Lodge looking for birds varzea specialists like the Pale-legged Hornero, Warbling antbird, Violaceus trogon, White-eared Jacamar, Buff-throated Woodcreeper. In Mainland Manakin find some species such as Golden-headed Manakin, who was replaced in the southern part of the Amazon by Red-headed Manakin, Blue-headed Manakin, Reddish Hermit, Golden-collared Toucanet, Fasciated Antshrike and Short- billed Antwren
On this tour we will also see giant Lupuna.
Return to the Lodge and rest. Dinner. Overnight at Heliconia Lodge.

 

Day 4: Forest Yanamono

Early morning birding in Cáceres broken or similar (if the water level in the river permitting) where we will observe birds like Wattled Jacana, White-eared Jacamar, Black Capped Donacobius, Red Capped Cardinald, Amazon Kingfisher, Green Kingfisher, Ringed Kingfisher, Black-Collared Hawk, Amazonian Antshrike, Amazonian-streaked Antwrent, Black Caracara, plumbeus Antbird, Great Egret, Greater Ani, Squirrel Cuckoo and Oriole Blackbird.

After breakfast, we will walk through the Yanamono water and land where hopefully observe, Black Fronted Nunbird, Blue Gray Tanager, Roadside Hawk, Yellow Haded Caracara, Chachalaca, Cuvier's Toucan, Yellow Rumped Cacique and others.

In the afternoon take a speed boat to the Napo River. In this tributary of the Amazon is more appropriate to observe river edge species such as Black-necked Red Cotinga, Orange-eyed Flycatcher, Swallow-wing, Cestnut-crowned Becard. Then visit a lake to observe Hoatzins, Plum-throated Cotinga, among other species. Also looking for birds such as the Black-collared Hawk, Great Black-Hawk, Capped Heron and three three species of Kingfishers (American Pygmy Kingfisher, Green and rufous Kingfisher, Green Kingfisher), during this time we can also observe the timid pink dolphin ( Inia Geoffrensis).
Return to the Lodge. Dinner.
Night will take a walk around the lodge looking tarantulas, fireflies, bats and other species of nocturnal birds like the Great Potoo, Common Potoo, Tropical Screech owl, Laadder tailed nightjar, Pauraque, etc.

 

Day 05: Forest Yanamono / Iquitos

Early birds look like Wattled Jacana, White-eared Jacamar, Black Capped Donacobius, Red Capped Cardinald, Amazon Kingfisher, Green Kingfisher, Ringed Kingfisher, Black-Collared Hawk, Gilded Barbet, Scarlet-crowned Barbet, Crimson-crested Woodpecker, Cream -colored Woodpecker, Striped Woodcreeper, Band-tailed Manakin among other species.
After lunch, return to the city of Iquitos.
Transfer to the airport.
